On March 22nd of this year, Peace Home held the official opening ceremony. After three years of hard work we were proud to finally open the day-centre of Peace Home. In this post we will tell you about this special day and the days around it. To start off, let's talk a little bit about the preparations. In our previous post, we elaborated on the last work that was done on the exterior and interior of the day-centre, completing the the building and it's surroundings. After this, the day-centre was ready to be put to full use. We felt it was important for everyone involved with Peace Home to celebrate this milestone and emphasise the start of the work in the day-centre. First, the date was decided. Next, the assembly man and his committee were informed about the date and included in the organisation. They took responsibility for inviting 'the officials'. The team then started focussing on the activities and other plans for the event, such as performances and speeches. We also got some he

We are back with another update! Our previous blog post was all about the opening ceremony. Now we will talk about the weeks that followed and the great success in these. A bigger and better team Let's start with a little rewind to the weeks before the opening ceremony. We were anticipating on the opening ceremony being the kick-start of Peace Home fully operating as a day-centre. This meant preparing for and working towards this. We combined the preparations for the opening ceremony with preparations for starting the work in the day-centre. For instance, we had a friend help us with designing a poster for job vacancies within the organisation. Then, whilst we started spreading the word about the opening ceremony we also spread the word about needed more people to reinforce the team. We hung posters around and posted the digital versions on social media. After the big opening ceremony in March a team of 15 professionals have started working in the day centre. It has been running for six months now and the children are showing up every schoolday to spend the day at Peace Home. Before the opening, the majority of the children that are part of Peace Home were from Busua but now a lot of them also come from the next town, Dixcove. Some of them can walk and the ones that cannot take a taxi if they can or are brought by the manager, other children or family members. We are now looking for funds to be able to get a small van to pick up the children. In the physiotherapy space treatment is taking place in many different forms. You can already see progression in reaching goals of the children with psychical challenges. Aside from that, the psychiatric nurses are working more on giving attention to the mental development of the children through communicative sessions. Firstly, a happy New Year to everyone! We are glad that you are reading a new update about the progress and events of Peace Home. Almost a year has flown by since the official opening ceremony in March of '23. There have been many highlights in recent months and Peace Home has entered the new year with a lot of positivity. In this post we want to look back on 2023 and highlight the Surf / Christmas party in December. First, a quick recap of 2023: The year started with the completion of the interior of the day-centre. All the way up to the day before the opening ceremony, we worked on furnishing the rooms. That day the last equipment for the physiotherapy room got delivered and had to be installed. Most of the other furniture came from the container that was shipped in 2022. On March 22nd the big official opening ceremony took place. Welcome back to another update from Peace Home. The first post focused on the new year of 2024. We thought it would be nice to talk a little about what plans Peace Home has for 2024. But first we would like to emphasise how proud and happy we are with the way the day-centre is running now. We couldn't have wished for a better first year after the official opening. The vision and mission has always been for a Ghanaian team to run the centre, focused on providing youth with special needs the opportunity of developing mentally and physically. This kickstarted wonderfully. Everyone who comes to Peace Home, it being the children, workers or visitors, loves being there. The atmosphere is amazingly positive and loving. But that doesn't take away that there is always room for improvements and change! As most of you probably know and understand, development is constant and should always be an objective.
